I am fascinated by the ability of a diorama to capture a moment in time and hold it there for all eternity. The present moment is so vital, yet impossible to hold on to. The diorama seems to capture a possible "here and now" moment and preserve it forever. Whether the moment being captured is simply a tree in a field, a tombstone in a silent cemetery or a monk in some chamber studying reverently, there is a certain peace and tranquility in that moment being indefinitely preserved.
The fun and satisfaction from creating these endless moments in time have become a very significant and meaningful artistic outlet for me.
Some of the scenes I create are inspired by fantasy books or movies I have read or seen. Some of them are expressions of concepts or philosophical statements. As philosophy and religion are major interests of mine, many of the dioramas have a religious theme. Some of them are simple landscape scenes in an attempt to capture the serenity of a single moment in time. And then, of course, due the origin (ask me about "The Crow" sometime) many of them are variations on the cemetery theme.
